Pigment Violet 16 (PV16), commonly known as Manganese Violet, C.I.77742, CAS No.10101-66-3, chemically is Ammonium Manganese(III) Diphosphate / Ammonium Manganese Pyrophosphate. It is a synthetic inorganic violet pigment, presented as fine reddish-violet powder. It is one of the safe inorganic violet colorants permitted for eye makeup.
PV16 features outstanding lightfastness and weather resistance, thermally stable up to 250°C, no bleeding or migration. It shows good acid resistance but poor alkali resistance and will decompose under strong alkaline conditions. It has moderate tinting strength and semi-transparent to semi-opaque property, insoluble in water and common organic solvents. Free of lead, cadmium and other toxic heavy metals.
